Welcome to UniColumn at http://www24.brinkster.com/alexweir/UniColumn

Unicolumn is designed as a system whereby people with essentially static websites can jazz them up and bit and add and/or modify content quickly and easily without any programming or HTML knowledge. It can probably be used for other things too...

You the client opens a (free) account by adding content the first time, and you get a User Id and you provide a password. We also give you a URL which can be pasted into one (or more) of your existing web pages. When someone clicks on that URL link on your web page, it takes you across to your page on our system. When the browsing person is finished, they press BACK on the browser or "return to main web pages" to return to your system.

You can modify the text (content) and/or the font used, the background colour, the text colour, the text width (make it narrow like a newspaper column or leave it wide), the font size. Note that when and if you modify only one of the above, you do not have to fill in again all the other values. But when you modify your existing entry, you DO have to put in your User ID and your password. Your password protects your webpage against hacking and unauthorised changing. If you are trying to modify your existing content and you forget to put in your User Id then the system allocates you a new entry - dont worry - just use either the old or the new entry

Q. What are the main applications of UniColumn?

A. Run a weekly, daily or monthly opinion, humour, joke or news column; or even a "keep friends and family in touch with action in my life" page. Note that you do not even need a web page system to utilise UniColumn - so long as you can email or even write to people with the URL (which includes your User ID) of your web page on our site.

Q. Are there any hidden charges?

A. No - I/we can provide this system free partly because the web hosting is free (thanks to www.brinkster.com)

Q. How do I delete an entry?

A. There is no mechanism to do that - just empty the comment (text) field and leave it.

Q. Is there a limit to the size of the webpage on UniColumn?

A. 10,000 characters - which is about 2,000 words. If people find that that is a serious problem then we may expand that limit....

Q. How do I know how many visits I am getting to this mini-web page?

A. When you update the page, even if you dont make any changes (i.e. just enter the User ID and password and press SUBMIT), then the system will tell you how many views the page has had up till now....

Enjoy!
